RECRUITMENT

Fulton Police Department
Position of Police Officer
Test Date: May 10, 2008
Last Filing Date: April 9, 2008
Is there a residency requirement in
order to take the exam?
Yes - candidates must be legal
residents of Oswego County or one of the contiguous counties
(Cayuga, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Lewis or Jefferson) for
at least one month immediately preceding the date of the
written examination.
Is there a fee to take the exam?
Yes - As of the previous exam (2006),
a non-refundable fee of $25 is
required for each separately numbered examination for which
you apply.
What are the minimum
qualifications?
You must be a high school graduate at
time of appointment. You must be a United States citizen and
possess a valid New York driver license at time of
appointment.
What are the age requirements?
Candidates must be at least 19 years
of age on or before the date of the examination in order to
take the exam. Eligibility for appointment as a police
officer begins when the candidate reaches age 20. Candidates
who reach their 35th birthday on or before the date of
written examination are not qualified except as follows:
Candidates may have a period or military duty or terminal
leave, up to six years as defined in Section 243(10-a) of
the Military Law, deducted from their age for purposes of
determining whether they meet the age requirement.
What about fitness standards?
There are three elements measured in
the qualifying physical fitness test - they are muscular
endurance, absolute strength and cardiovascular capacity.
Details are available with the formal examination
announcement. Copies of the physical fitness and
medical standards are available upon request at the
Personnel/Civil Service Office.
What is cross filing?
If you have applied for any
other civil service examination to be given on the same test
date for employment with New York State or any other local
government jurisdiction excluding New York City, you can
make arrangements to take all the examinations at one test
site. This allows you take the test once in one
location and have the results be received by multiple
agencies.
How can I better prepare to take
this test?
"A Guide to Taking the
Examination for Entry-Level Police Officer Series" is
available at the NYS Department of Civil Service website:
http://www.cs.state.ny.us/jobseeker/local/index.cfm

and examination announcement?
