The City of Fulton
Fulton is a small city of approximately
3.8 square miles located in the western portion of Oswego
County in Central New York.
It is approximately 8 miles to the south of the City of
Oswego which is located on the shores of Lake Ontario, and
approximately 20 miles to the north of the City of Syracuse.
According to the 2000 census the population of Fulton
was 11,855 at that time.
The City of Fulton Police Department
The City of Fulton is served by a full
time police force of 34 sworn officers.
The department is supported by two clerical staff and
an Animal Control Officer.
The Department consists of the Chief of Police,
Deputy Chief, Patrol Commander (Lieutenant), Traffic and
Training Sergeant who oversees two civilian employees of the
City’s Traffic Department, the Patrol Division which
consists of 27 officers and the Criminal Investigative
Division which consists of four officers.
Patrol Division
The Patrol Division of the City Of Fulton
Police Department is comprised of three platoons each
consisting of one Lieutenant, one Sergeant and 7 patrol
officers. The
patrol division is responsible for everything from enforcing
parking and traffic laws to answering 911 calls for routine
nuisance type complaints to serious property and violent
crimes.
Criminal Investigative Division
The City of Fulton Police Department’s
Criminal Investigative Division is comprised of one Lieutenant
and three Investigators. CID
is responsible for investigating the more in depth and time
consuming investigations including financial crimes, sexual
abuses, drug investigations and the like.
Specialized Services
School Resource Officer
(SRO) - The City of Fulton Police
Department has a School Resource Officer who works out of an
office at G. Ray Bodley High School.
The purpose of the SRO is to enhance safety and
security of students and staff.
The SRO is also available to consult with students and
staff on crime and safety matters.
The SRO will also take crime reports, monitor the
overall G.Ray Bodley campus and enforce laws.
The SRO is a member of the Patrol Division and is
assigned to Patrol when school is not in session.

K-9 – Currently the Police Department
has canine Rika who is handled by Sgt. Craig Westbrook.
The canine is trained in tracking and drug sniffing.
DARE Officer – For several years the
Fulton Police Department has provided the DARE (Drug Abuse
Resistance Education) program to fifth graders in Fulton's
elementary schools. DARE is a national drug awareness program.
The DARE Officer is a member of the Patrol Division and
is assigned to Patrol when school is not in session.
